does straterra have to be discontinued slowly, or can you just stop taking it?

like almost most medications, especially for ones that are used for treatment with neurological things, it probably should always be a good idea to slowly get off it, rather than stop completely. ( the brain needs time to adjust properly for one ) .
That is my non-professional medical suggestion though ":P
But this should be something the Physician being seen should be telling you anyways. So go speak with him/her about it.
Kindest Regards,

Joanne,
There are studies that say that you can stop it abruptly. But, I agree with Stephen, it is best to taper, to respect the brain chemicals.
Good luck.

I also respect your suggestion, but am continuing on Strattera 100mg until I can find a someone [ADHD knowledgeable] who can look at all my medications, which are considerable for this Senior Adult ADD'er, but apparently in balance physiologically. Then if suggesting any additions or subtractions, that specialist will be qualified to respond appropriately?
My major concern is my dependence on caffiene in the form of high octane expresso in multiple quantities. I just recently started with a Clinical Psychologist. Her immediate responce was to suggest not rushing to take additional medications (like adding a simulant?)? I can appreciate that, but am still concerned about the toxicity [and my wife says expense], but not enough to D/C. Yes, the next step might be to decrease my visits to Starbucks? lol, davidk

Hey, I can respond to my own "Post". [ps; please read my posting in "New Year Resolution Support Program"]. After I got back from California, I was Professionally diagnosed by ADHD, CHADD listed Clinical Psychologist and later confirmed by Psychiatrist with Prescription(Rx) changes. I am being titrated up with Ritilin (now 20mg two times day) and D/C Strattera 100mg & Effexor XR 150mg BiD(2X) and titrating up Antidepressent Remeron/mirtazaprine 30mg HS{bedtime}.
Although diagnosis was considered "likely" by Primary care Physician [and Me] with Rx Strattera many years ago, the suprise was "Combined type" ADHD severe, with Chronic Spinal Pain Syndrome, Depression/Anxiety and a multiple of age related and some non-age related physiologically controlled conditions.
I am very (tired actually) excited with the new year and looking forward to "build(ing) momentum with setting GOALs and putting into action plans set into cement [not shifting sand].

Wow brother,
Well I mean, to be neutral about this,. I believe that there can and may be a myriad of options that should be available to you right now, besides all these medication solutions. ( even if you may not see them all as solutions at all . ) which they are never. :)
- But that is what we are here for, to expand on this.
I can be very simple, or even just as complex to manage all of your personal areas of ADD and the other conditions playing all the parts aside from everything.
and P.S : Of, COURSE you are tired by this point :) I was already thinking of being tired by the time you had to mention " I am very (tired) " .
BUT, with that whole rest of the statement, it is clearly showing that there is going to be also the opportunity and strength to begin taking action and accountability for ourselves.
and I will not finish with using the all and most important statement coming from Dr. Lynn Edris particularly from our latest Coaching Calls and which also means just about everything to every one of us , especially as we do these things for ourselves. NOW. TODAY. =-) – [ BABY STEPS ] -
Kindest Regards,
- Stephen
